Engagement Session Tips
When should I book my engagement session?
Whenever it works best for you! Some couples need images for save-the-dates, while others wait until just before or even after the wedding (we’ll call those “newlywed images”). There’s no right or wrong—schedule based on your needs. You might even pick a season different from your wedding to add variety.
What locations should we pick?
After scheduling, we’ll chat about locations. I recommend spots that hold special meaning to you as a couple or reflect your style. Think about places you love or activities that define your relationship. During the session, we’ll wander a bit to find unique light and angles while keeping it personal to you. If you’re unsure, I’ve got plenty of suggestions! Share what you enjoy and your style, and I’ll tailor the locations to fit perfectly.
What days and times can our session take place?
Session timing depends on location and time of year. Ideally, we’ll shoot during golden hour (1–2 hours before sunset), though the exact time varies by season. Weeknights are usually more flexible, but I may have occasional Sunday or Friday availability. If possible, book your engagement session when you reserve your wedding date!
What should we wear?
Wear what feels comfortable and true to you! If you’re into jeans, stick with that—if you love dressing up, go for it. Bring 2–3 outfits, but keep in mind we’ll be outdoors, so layers and easy-to-change clothing are key. Avoid bright whites, large logos, or busy patterns as they can be distracting. Professional hair and makeup can be a nice confidence boost, but it’s not required. Think about your location too—a casual dress or jeans for a park, or something more polished for a downtown session. Coordinating colors work better than matching outfits!
Can we bring our dog? Our kids? Props?
Yes! I’d love to include your pets or kids. I suggest starting with them, then having a trusted friend or family member take them home so we can focus on you. Props are great if they’re meaningful, but they’re not necessary—our focus will be on your connection and creating timeless images.
We’re not fans of getting our photos taken. Will you help us?
Absolutely! Feeling nervous is normal, but don’t stress—I’ll guide you through poses and keep the session fun and relaxed. My goal is to make you comfortable and capture your genuine connection.
What if it rains?
Weather can change quickly, so try not to stress. If the forecast looks questionable, we can adjust the session time or reschedule if needed. A little rain can also make for stunning portraits—so let’s embrace it if we can!
How and when will we get our images?
Your edited images will be delivered through an online gallery, usually within 3–4 weeks of the session. From there, you can easily download your photos, share them with friends and family, and even order professional prints.
Can we share the photos on social media?
Absolutely! I love seeing your images shared online. I only ask that you tag or credit me (@arraephoto) so others can find my work too.
I can’t wait to celebrate this exciting chapter of your lives! If you have other questions, feel free to reach out—I’m here to help.
